Public transport in Alexandria city dates to year"1860" when the first though of "Horses-Drawn Tram services" was introduced in all the world.

Organization was founded as follows:

-         Ramleh Tramway since August 1860 , the EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT granted the concession to sir Edward Santa John Ferryman  of  British  Nationality, to assist a new Railway Line, serving the population of Alexandria who are living at Ramleh Area,.The concession was granted to the limited Belgium company.

-         In 1862 they started to fix the first railway rail.

-         In august 1863 the company operated "a new steam waggon" to drive the tramcars instead of horses.

-         In 1904 was the first developing of the activities by extending the lines up to 10 K.M. length.Secondly electrifying Ramleh Tram lines and operated a new Belguim Double-Decker Tramcars with a bigger capacity of passengers.

-         In 1929 the Egyption government gave the whole authority to one of its local firms called Ramleh electric Railway which started operated five new bussing buses in order to serve population along the beach side

-         In 1965 Alexandria transport authority was founded instead of Ramleh electrical Railway.

-         At present the main activity that to serve the population all around Alexandria city through:

    Ramleh Tram lines

    City tram lines network

    four Garage buses areas

     (East area - middle area - wast area - and Moharam biq area)
